Singer-songwriter Cat Burns has spoken of her 'overwhelming relief and happiness' after undergoing breast reduction surgery. The 24-year-old, who rose to fame with her hit 'Go', shared the news on social media, revealing she had struggled with body image since her breasts first developed at age 12.
In a post accompanied by a photo from her hospital bed, Burns explained that her large breasts caused pain during exercise and led to unwanted sexualisation. 'I tried so many different ways to work with my body and wear different bras,' she wrote, 'but I thought while I'm young and healthy ... I want to love my body going into the next part of my life!' She added that she 'had a big fat cry' upon seeing her mother, sister and girlfriend after the operation.
According to the NHS, breast reduction is a major operation that can make breasts feel smaller, lighter and improve their shape. It may be available on the health service if other options have failed or if the patient suffers from health problems such as back, shoulder or neck pain, skin irritation, low self-esteem or depression caused by very large breasts.
Burns released her second album, 'How To Be Human', last October, describing it as 'very honest' and 'very vulnerable'. She postponed her UK headline tour to April 2026, citing the need to prioritise her wellbeing. 'Touring is incredibly demanding mentally and physically,' she said at the time. The album followed her Mercury Prize-shortlisted debut 'Early Twenties'.
In November, Burns reached the final of 'The Celebrity Traitors' and saw 'How To Be Human' climb to Number Five on the UK albums chart.
