Carrie Underwood Returns to Natural Hair Colour After 30 Years

Carrie Underwood has revealed a dramatic hair transformation, returning to her natural colour for the first time in three decades. The 42-year-old singer, known for her bright blonde locks, has debuted a darker shade she calls 'bronde' – a blend of brunette and blonde.

Sharing the new look on Instagram, Underwood wrote: 'Well, the last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old, but I thought it might be time to give it a second chance.' She credited hairstylist Katelin at Parlour 3 Beauty for helping her 'get back to my roots'.

Fans praised the change, with comments such as 'I wish more women would embrace their more natural color!' and 'I am loving this natural look for fall!!' In 2012, Underwood had expressed fear of shocking people with a hair colour change, telling Refinery 29 she had always been blonde and worried about being perceived as 'dark and serious'.

The transformation comes as Underwood prepares to perform the Sunday Night Football theme song for the 13th consecutive year. The new season opener, featuring a variation of 'Waiting All Day for Sunday Night', was recorded at The Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas and will air on 7 September when the Baltimore Ravens face the Buffalo Bills.

Tripp Dixon, creative director of the SNF show open, said the 20th season called for a reimagined anthem that highlights Underwood's vocals. Underwood added: 'We had a blast shooting the new opening... Tripp and the creative team continue to raise the bar.'
