Carol Vorderman Swears Off Alcohol for Life, Embraces Sober Trend

Carol Vorderman, the 64-year-old television legend, has revealed she has sworn off alcohol for life, following the sober trend popular among Gen Z. The broadcaster, who will host the Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards with P&O Cruises later this month, said she has never smoked or taken recreational drugs and now hardly drinks.

“I’m out all the time at the moment - I’ve just had the best summer of my life,” Vorderman said. “I’ve never smoked, I've literally never done a recreational drug in my life. I used to go out and get merry, but now I hardly drink either. But I'm having a great time.”

Vorderman recently spent the summer enjoying mini-breaks with friends and is looking forward to the Pride of Britain Awards, where she will meet the winners. She described the event as a chance to celebrate good people and their stories, which often get drowned out by negative news.

The awards ceremony will be preceded by an informal 'Winners' Dinner' hosted by Vorderman and co-host Ashley Banjo. “We briefly tell each person’s story and the reason they’ve won their award, and then everyone cheers,” she explained. “Then, every time, they go, ‘oh, isn’t so-and-so amazing, I completely understand why they’ve won an award, but I don’t understand why I have.’ Every year they do this!”

Vorderman also received an honorary fellowship from her Cambridge University college, Sidney Sussex, marking 50 years since it admitted women. “I went 47 years ago, so I was in the third year there that they took women,” she said. “This, for a nerd and a geek like me, is the equivalent of an Oscar and BAFTA combined.”

The Pride of Britain Awards will air on ITV on October 23 at 8pm.
