Carol Vorderman has shared a health update after falling unconscious, being rushed to hospital, and suffering a concussion with persistent dizziness. The 65-year-old former Countdown host took to Instagram to reveal the details of her latest health scare.
Details of the Incident
In a video addressing her followers, Vorderman explained that she tripped over a tree root near her home on a public path, fell on her head, and lost consciousness. An ambulance took her to the hospital, and her son Cam noted that the 'Final Countdown' was playing in the ambulance. She was discharged but the next day could not sit up and experienced massive continual vomiting, leading to a return to the hospital for CT scans at Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Persistent Dizziness and Treatment
Vorderman developed a black eye and bruising on almost half her face, which kept her from posting reels in June. After two to three weeks, the bruising settled but dizziness persisted, feeling like walking on a moving ship. She sought help from a concussion clinic specializing in treating professional athletes. There, a therapist named Sophie diagnosed her with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), a disruption in the inner ear involving dislodged crystals. Vorderman received the Epley Technique, which involved being thrown backwards quickly while sitting upright. She described the sensation as falling off the edge of the earth but felt relief after a minute.
Recovery and Support
Vorderman completed three rounds of treatment and was discharged, reporting that 95% of her dizziness had disappeared. Supporters sent well-wishes in the comments, with one writing, 'Hope you're doing well now,' and another pleading, 'Take care.'
