Carol Vorderman: My First Marriage Didn't Count, I Was on Rebound
Carol Vorderman: First Marriage Was a Rebound

Carol Vorderman has opened up about her two marriages, describing her first as 'a rebound' and revealing she borrowed two dresses for the occasion. The former Countdown star married Christopher Mather in 1985, but the union ended after just one year. Four years later, she wed Patrick King, with whom she shares two children, before divorcing in 2000.

Rebound Wedding Confession

Speaking on A Night In with Sally Lindsay on Channel 5, the 65-year-old discussed her past and current love life. When asked about a rumor that she 'nicked' her wedding dress from the wardrobe of game show 3-2-1, Vorderman confirmed the story.

'That was my first wedding, [I've had] two, that one didn't count though, I had only known him weeks, 14 weeks. I was on the rebound and I thought, yeah, yeah,' she explained.

She further revealed that she borrowed not only her wedding dress but also her evening outfit from the 3-2-1 costume cage. 'It was all mesh with sequins in the right places,' she recalled, adding that she performed It's Raining Men as the bride. She has previously joked that this song choice may have contributed to the marriage's early end.

Second Marriage Regret

Vorderman has never publicly disclosed why her second marriage ended, though she has expressed regret over the divorce. 'I never said why my marriage broke down and we'd agreed never to talk about it publicly. The divorce is a regret of mine and my mum thinks that we should have stayed together,' she told Woman Magazine. 'He's now remarried so there's no chance of us getting back together. Had my career not taken off like it did, Paddy and I probably wouldn't have split up.'

No Desire to Remarry

Reflecting on her experiences, Vorderman stated, 'I never want to get married again.' Since her split from Patrick, she has not remarried and has spoken openly about no longer pursuing monogamous relationships. Instead, she enjoys the company of several 'special friends.'

Providing an update on her love life, she said she is 'very happy' with her current situation. 'I couldn't think of anything worse right now,' she said of the prospect of a relationship. 'I love seeing mates, I've got lots of great mates. I have a great social life, I don't need anyone for money, I don't need anyone for anything really, other than the nice bits,' she laughed.
