After 28 years on BBC Breakfast, Carol Kirkwood delivered her final weather broadcast in April 2026. The 64-year-old, originally from the Highlands, has since embraced retirement with her husband, former policeman Steve Randall, 51. The couple married in 2023 at Cliveden in a small ceremony.
Living the Dream
Kirkwood told Yours magazine: "I loved being a weather presenter. I loved my job, and it was my choice to leave, because I love my husband more, and we want to do things together." She added: "I'm living the dream, I'm loving it. What they say about retirement is absolutely true though - you seem to be busier than you were when you were working, and I don't know how that works out, but it's great!"
The pair met in 2017 and their friendship turned romantic. Randall proposed near their home in Bray, an exclusive village an hour from London. Kirkwood was previously married to businessman Jimmy Kirkwood for 25 years until 2008. She told the Times: "Love is lovelier the second time around. No disrespect to my first husband, but this is better."
Life in Bray
The couple reside in a contemporary detached house near Windsor. Kirkwood described it to HouseBeautiful in 2024 as "my refuge, a place where I can come home, relax and switch off." She enjoys gardening, a reversal from her childhood in the Highlands. Her husband Steve is the true source of happiness: "If he's at home, I'm happy. I don't need anything else. He's tall, handsome, kind, gentle, strong, funny, charming. He's a gentleman."
Kirkwood's home decor includes a love for glitter and a collection of souvenir mugs. She is an avid reader of autobiographies, biographies, fiction, and nonfiction.
Travel and Retirement
Since retiring, the couple have visited Italy and Las Vegas to see The Eagles at The Sphere. Their bucket list includes return trips to America, Australia, and a visit to India.
Bray: A Millionaire's Village
Bray is a 16th-century riverside village whose residents include Michael Caine. According to Rightmove, the average detached property costs £1 million. Terraced homes average £691,000, and flats £684,000. The village offers riverside walks and is a fine dining destination with three three-Michelin-star restaurants: Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck, where a meal costs £365 per head, and The Waterside Inn, Kirkwood's favourite.
