Former England rugby captain Chris Robshaw and soprano Camilla Kerslake have looked back at a viral photograph taken on her 24th birthday, which shows Robshaw shirtless at a roller disco. The couple, who married in 2018, recalled the night in a joint interview, describing it as a memorable early date.
Robshaw, 38, said he was nervous meeting Kerslake's friends for the first time and relied on alcohol for confidence. He admitted that drinking and roller skating might not have been the best combination, but appreciated the athletic theme as it meant he didn't have to dance. Kerslake, 36, revealed she had downed a 'dirty pint' from a cereal bowl before leaving her flat, leaving her 'three sheets to the wind' by the time they arrived.
The couple first met serendipitously at a charity dinner, bumping into each other as they were leaving. Robshaw said he was immediately struck by Kerslake's talent and looks, while she appreciated his honesty and kindness. She noted that he asked her out on the spot, unlike a footballer who had tried to get her number through agents the week before, which she dismissed as childish.
Robshaw, who captained England from 2012 to 2015, said Kerslake provided an escape from the intensity of his rugby career and brought out his fun side. The couple now have two children and run the Kerslake Robshaw Foundation, supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Despite retiring from rugby in 2022, Robshaw remains active, though he draws the line at roller discos.
