Tensions escalated with Caitlyn's Vanity Fair cover in 2015, where she criticised Kris for 'mistreating' her and controlling the finances.
Khloe Kardashian retaliated, alleging the family learned of Caitlyn's transition through E! producers rather than directly. In a 2015 episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kris was filmed sobbing during a phone call with Caitlyn, who accused Khloe of 'talking s**t'. Kris pleaded, 'Khloe isn't out to get you. You were her father... give her a break.'
Caitlyn's 2017 memoir, The Secrets of My Life, further strained relations with claims that Kris knew about her gender issues before their marriage. Kris has consistently denied this, insisting she was taken by surprise.
