Britney Spears has publicly responded to allegations made by her ex-husband Kevin Federline in his forthcoming memoir, in which he claims she once watched their sons sleep while holding a knife.
In an excerpt from the book "You Thought You Knew", shared by The New York Times, Federline writes that the couple's sons would sometimes wake at night to find their mother standing silently in the doorway, "with a knife in her hand". He says she would then turn and walk away without explanation.
Spears, who was married to Federline from 2004 to 2007, took to Instagram to address the claims without naming him directly. She wrote that she had been "made to believe I'm the bad one" while others "profit off my pain", and questioned why he remained "so angry" now that their children are adults.
A statement from her representatives added that Federline and others were "profiting off her" and that the timing came after child support payments had ended. They stressed that Spears' only concern was the wellbeing of their sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.
Federline also claims in the memoir that Spears partied with Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton while her sons cried in another room. Spears has previously spoken out about the memoir, describing the "constant gaslighting from my ex-husband" as "extremely hurtful and exhausting".
