Steve Green, Britain's oldest farmer at 96, was left heartbroken when his beloved wife Jean, 73, was rushed to hospital for an operation. The couple, who have been married for 45 years, were separated for the first time, with Steve spending a week alone at their Stoneybrough Farm home in Thirsk.
Reunion After Surgery
When Peter Wright, star of The Yorkshire Vet, brought Jean back home, the pair were overjoyed to be reunited. Peter described them as "like two smitten teenagers" and noted that their relationship epitomises love and laughter. "They'd never spent a single night apart until then," he said.
A Friendship Spanning Decades
Peter has known the Greens since 1982 when they became his clients. He recalls the banter with Jean from the start and values their close friendship. Jean is known for her colorful sweatshirts and silver bracelets, while Steve is more reserved but reveals a poetic side. During their first love, Steve wrote poems for Jean while sitting on his tractor, and he produced one when they renewed their wedding vows after 40 years.
Challenges of Filming
Peter says filming with the couple can be unpredictable, especially with Jean's spirited personality. In the new series of At Home With The Greens, Jean considers getting a tattoo—something Peter never expected.
