Bridgerton star Rege-Jean Page has candidly shared details of what he describes as "one of the most terrifying moments" of his life while filming his latest project. The actor, renowned for his role as Simon Basset in the hit Netflix series, faced an intimidating challenge during the production of the romantic comedy You, Me and Tuscany.
A Daunting Scene with a Musical Prodigy
In the film, Page stars alongside singer-songwriter Halle Bailey, a Grammy-nominated artist known for her vocal prowess. One particular scene required Page to sing in front of Bailey without any musical accompaniment or support, a scenario that left him feeling exceptionally vulnerable.
Opening Up on National Television
During an appearance on BBC's The One Show, Page discussed the experience with presenters JB Gill and Alex Jones. When questioned about the scene, he confessed, "It was genuinely one of the most terrifying moments of my life." He elaborated on the script's directive, which essentially tasked him with charming Bailey using only his voice.
"There is this moment in the script that calls, 'OK, you are going to sing in front of one of the world's greatest singers'... No accompaniment, no support, no one to even put a note out. 'Just go charm Halle Bailey with nothing but the power of your voice,'" Page explained. He admitted to mentally retreating to a "happy place" during the take, unsure of the outcome.
Co-Star's Reassuring Praise
Despite his fears, Page's performance received high praise from his co-star. Halle Bailey enthusiastically exclaimed, "He killed it! He killed it! It's great, it's one of the best parts of the movie, seriously." This endorsement helped alleviate some of the actor's anxieties about the scene.
Film Details and Character Dynamics
You, Me and Tuscany is set against the picturesque backdrop of Italy, where Halle Bailey portrays Anna, a young cook who moves into a Tuscan villa owned by a stranger. Rege-Jean Page plays Michael, the cousin of the villa's owner and Anna's love interest in the story.
Mutual Admiration on Set
During the interview, Bailey expressed her excitement about working with Page, citing her admiration for Bridgerton and his other projects. "I mean I love Bridgerton, I love the other projects he was in," she said. "I'm excited to get to work with him." She added that getting to know Page as a "really genuine person" made the experience enjoyable.
The One Show, where this discussion took place, airs on BBC One on weekdays from 7pm, providing a platform for such insightful celebrity interviews.
