Brendan O'Carroll has cancelled the 2026 Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas and New Year specials due to an unexpected medical issue. The 70-year-old actor, who plays Agnes Brown, announced the news on social media, explaining that a CT scan found two fractures in his jaw (mandible) that require immediate surgery and a few months of recovery.
Postponed Shows
O'Carroll also confirmed he would postpone his festive Mrs Brown's Boys D'Panto? shows in Dublin and Killarney, aiming to reschedule them for 2027. He stated that the decision was made on medical advice from his consultant and was not taken lightly.
Previous Health Struggles
This latest setback follows a period of ill health in 2020, when O'Carroll shared an exclusive health update. He had suffered from a virus and a problem with his arteries within three years. After successful treatment and lifestyle changes, including giving up smoking, he recovered.
In that earlier interview, he recalled thinking he was having a heart attack while recording in Glasgow, but it turned out to be a severe virus. Later, a doctor friend noticed something wrong with his breathing during a TV interview, leading to a stent being placed in his heart. He was about a month away from a heart attack.
Focus on Recovery
O'Carroll now says he needs to focus on getting back to full health and thanked fans for their support. He added: "I genuinely cannot wait to see you all again in 2027. Our fans mean the world to us, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support and trust me Agnes Brown and her family will be back!"
