Bollywood singer Nisar Wayanad has died aged 44, just hours before he was due to perform in Dubai. He died in hospital on Saturday, September 5, after travelling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in August for a series of musical programmes. He had been due to perform at an event in Ajman.
Cause of death listed
According to Gulf News, his cause of death was listed as acidosis as the direct cause, with systemic inflammatory response syndrome of infectious origin with organ failure recorded as the leading cause. Other septicaemia was listed as the underlying cause.
Wayanad, who catapulted to fame for his voice, which resembles that of award-winning Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan, had been unwell for several days before his death.
Tributes from friends
A friend of the singer, Noujas Kayakkool, paid tribute on social media, revealing he was one of the last people to speak to Wayanad. He told Gulf News: "He was with me earlier yesterday morning. I knew he had been running a fever for a couple of days, but he was taking paracetamol, thinking it would subside. Later in the day, he called to say he was going to the hospital. When I learnt from the hospital that his condition was serious, I was coordinating with them to ensure he received the best possible treatment. Unfortunately, the doctors could not save him."
He added: "He took on the responsibility of supporting his family at a very young age following the death of his father, and now he too has been taken from us far too soon. More than a talented singer, he was a very dear friend to me. This is an irreplaceable loss."
Industry reaction
Nibin Navas, who had also worked with Nisar on several shows, said his death was a "major loss to the Malayalam music industry and an irreplaceable loss for friends and loved ones".
He added: "[My wife] Yazir and I were at another event in Sharjah when we received the news that he had been admitted to hospital. We rushed there immediately, but by the time we arrived, it was all over."
Yazir said: "He was an amazing artist and a dear friend of our family. We are deeply saddened by his loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
Nisar is survived by his mother, wife, two daughters and three siblings.
