Newlyweds Anna Boden and Ollie Hext experienced every couple's worst nightmare when their lavish three-tier wedding cake crashed to the ground moments after they tied the knot. The cake toppled down stone steps and ended up as an unexpected treat for the family's terrier.
Instagram Post Reveals Mishap
Johnnie Boden, 65, founder of the British fashion brand Boden, shared a series of pictures from his daughter's wedding on Instagram, including two candid snaps capturing the spectacular mishap. One image showed the newlyweds, both 31, standing at the top of a flight of rustic stone steps as two members of the catering team appeared to lose their grip on the ornate cake. A follow-up picture revealed the elaborate creation lying smashed across the grass while the family terrier tucked into the icing. An empty champagne bottle could also be seen nearby.
Couple's Reaction
Despite the wedding day disaster, the couple appeared to put the cake drama behind them as they celebrated with family and friends. While it is not clear whether the cake was replaced, the catastrophe did not appear to dampen the celebrations, with the newlyweds smiling throughout the photographs shared online. Johnnie Boden wrote a heartfelt tribute to his eldest daughter: “My daughter Anna’s wedding to her new husband Ollie was a wonderful celebration… Lots of joyful tears were shed, not least by me.”
Glimpses of the Big Day
The photographs also offered a glimpse into the couple’s big day. Anna, a science teacher in west London, wore an elegant fitted satin bridal gown with sheer puffed sleeves, her hair swept back beneath a tiara and flowing veil. Her father, who walked her down the aisle in a morning suit, later changed into a bold pink-and-red striped suit paired with Adidas trainers for the celebrations. The caterers seen carrying the wedding cake also appeared to be wearing aprons made from the same colourful striped fabric.
