Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse Confirm Ted's Final Appearance

Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse have confirmed that their beloved friend, Ted, will make his final appearance in the new series of Gone Fishing. The BBC series will air later this year.

Ted's Legacy on Gone Fishing

Earlier this year, the heartbreaking news was announced that Patterdale terrier mix Ted, known from BBC's Gone Fishing, had died. His co-stars Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse shared heartfelt tributes to their furry friend, as other stars and fans reacted to the tragic news.

Ted first appeared in the BBC show during its third series in 2020 and quickly became popular with fans. He was even given a lifetime achievement award during the show's 2025 Christmas special, as he appeared alongside Mortimer and fellow comedian Paul Whitehouse.

Heartfelt Tributes from Bob and Paul

Bob wrote: "So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much... and away boss." Meanwhile, Paul added: "Bye bye, Ted, old friend. He wasn't a dog, he was a species all of his own. He's gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you, mate."

Announcement of Final Appearance

In a video posted on Instagram, the duo shared: "Hi ladies and gentlemen, thanks very much for joining us. Listen up, there's a new series of six episodes of Gone Fishing coming our way soon. One of them's very special because it's the last appearance of Ted. So we'll be able to see Ted again and wave him a goodbye." Bob then added: "Talking of Ted, he left us behind a little present, a manuscript... Happy Ever After from Ted. So, check it out guys," as Paul continued: "Join us later in the year for another season!"

Ted's Rescue and Life

Ted was rescued from a dog's home in Surrey in the Spring of 2013 when he was about six months old and went to live with Lisa Clark, Executive Producer of Gone Fishing. Lisa shared that Ted would be "sorely missed," as she wrote: "Ted was a much-loved family pet as well as a treasured companion to Paul and Bob on Gone Fishing. He took fame in his little stride and loved nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks, nicking jammy doggers from Bob and bait from Paul. He will be sorely missed both at home and on screen. We'll never forget him. He is survived at home by Bo the Briard."

Ted's Final Series and Show History

In the most recent series, Ted received massages from an expert to help with his aches and pains from old age, with the terrier even appearing in a pram at times when walking became too much. Gone Fishing first aired on BBC Two and iPlayer in 2018. The show was born after Bob underwent triple heart bypass surgery. To help him out of the house and aid his recovery, his lifelong friend Paul invited him out fishing. The ninth series of Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing airs later this year.
