An influencer from Stockport says she has been receiving death threats over a 'false' story claiming she dumped her boyfriend because he was ugly. Kitty Hinde, who posts about living with blindness, says she has been subjected to an 'unacceptable level of abuse, harassment and, most seriously, death threats based on information that is simply not true'.
Origin of the false story
The controversy began after an X account posted a clip which claimed the 21-year-old dumped her partner for a man who then stole from her. It has been reported that Kitty, who lost her sight as a teenager after being diagnosed with glaucoma in childhood, has previously posted how she lent a man, who she had been in a relationship with, money after he claimed to be in debt. Kitty, who last year appeared on the TV dating show Blind Matchmakers, said she later discovered 'thousands and thousands' of pounds had been transferred from her bank account into his.
Management's statement
In a statement today, Kitty's management company Peripheral said the theft had been reported to the police and 'resulted in an arrest'. The statement read: "We are aware of the false and misleading story currently circulating online regarding Kitty's previous relationship and her friendships. To be absolutely clear, the narrative being shared is completely false.
"Kitty did not leave her previous relationship because her partner was 'ugly', nor did she enter a relationship with someone who subsequently stole from her. The reality is that Kitty was the victim of theft by the person she was previously in a relationship with."
The matter was reported to the police and resulted in an arrest. Kitty subsequently met another man through a dating show. "They are friends and nothing more. A false and misleading story about Kitty, published on social media, has now resulted in her receiving an unacceptable level of abuse, harassment and, most seriously, death threats based on information that is simply not true."
Call to stop sharing
"We ask that people stop sharing and repeating this false narrative and consider the very real impact that spreading misinformation about someone's personal life can have. We are documenting the content and messages being circulated and will take appropriate action where necessary."
