Beverley Callard's Husband Supported as She Prepares for Radiotherapy
Beverley Callard's Husband Supported Amid Cancer Treatment

Beverley Callard's husband has received an outpouring of support from fans as the Coronation Street legend provides an update on her upcoming cancer treatment.

Cancer Diagnosis and Initial Treatment

In January, the actress, best known for playing Liz McDonald on the ITV soap, revealed she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. She received the news just 20 minutes before filming her first scenes on the Irish soap Fair City, where she plays new character Lily Patterson. Beverley relocated to Ireland for the role alongside her husband, Jon McEwan.

She underwent surgery to remove three lymph nodes as a precaution to prevent the cancer from spreading. Her consultant later informed her that the surgery went well and they managed to remove the cancer entirely.

Radiotherapy Update

However, Beverley was recently told she should have started radiotherapy sooner and has been awaiting the start of treatment. On Monday, June 15, she shared a video on social media expressing hope for a radiotherapy date soon.

The 69-year-old said: 'Well, I've got news. I have an appointment on Thursday afternoon at 3.30 to have the body scan and body mapping and then hopefully, she says, I will begin the radiotherapy the week after. Next week I'm hoping. So fingers crossed. But, Sod's Law, I'm at work the next Monday, a week today, so hopefully I'll be able to cope with both.'

She captioned the post: 'So the next appointment date is through, with hopefully a plan to start the radiotherapy next week. But it's Sod's Law that I also go back to work that week so hopefully I can power through both!'

On Thursday, June 18, Beverley attended her latest appointment. She documented the process and noted that staff were lovely but short-staffed, so blood tests and blood pressure checks would be done on her first radiotherapy session, expected to be July 2.

Husband's Emotional Update

Jon McEwan shared his own update on social media, saying: 'Beverley has just gone into the CT room just to have her mapping done. There's nothing we can do really, is there? I'm just waiting. Yeah, she looked pretty worried about it but I know there's nothing worried about it. I think she's more worried about this than she is about having the operation.'

He added: 'I think it's the unknown, isn't it? I think I'm more worried about this - the operation is just that. And I know she's worried about what she looks like but there's no need to worry about that. But this... the fact that she's gotta come every day...it's certainly a journey.'

Fans flooded his post with messages of love and support. @ttustin40 wrote: 'You are an amazing partner Jon. So supportive. She is amazing. Make sure you take care of yourself as well.' @duffyjune commented: 'You look worried Jon. You are doing great. If everyone had the support of a partner like you it would be wonderful.'

@moira_rooney said: 'I haven't gone through any of this Jon but I feel your fear and Beverley's too. It is scary but she will get through this, I know she will.' @sarah5865 replied: 'You are an amazing human and so supportive. Please make sure you look after yourself during this journey because you are loved by everyone also and your strength is wonderful.' @donohoekaz added: 'So good that you're able to open up about your journey.. sending love & support to you and Bev.'
