Beckham to Get Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Amid Fan Split

Former England footballer Sir David Beckham is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, sparking mixed reactions among fans. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that the 51-year-old will be honored in a ceremony at 6819 Hollywood Boulevard on Friday, June 12.

Ceremony Details

Actor Tom Cruise and Beckham's wife, Victoria Beckham, are scheduled to speak at the event, where Beckham will receive the 2,849th star on the iconic walkway. Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame, stated: "The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome David Beckham to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His recognition in the Sports Entertainment category comes at a fitting moment as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup. Beckham's role in elevating soccer's profile in America and his lasting influence on sports, entertainment, and global culture make this honour especially meaningful."

Fan Reactions

Fans quickly took to social media to share their thoughts. One supporter wrote: "Of course he is, he's a legend!" Another commented: "Sir David Beckham, fittingly honoured before the World Cup!" However, some questioned the decision. A user posted: "Sorry but David Beckham is not a movie star! Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame are for the likes of legends Paul Newman. What's next? Love Island people getting them?" Another joked: "David Beckham gets a Hollywood Star. To be fair I've loved all the films he's done!"

The recognition comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, which kicks off this month in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The Walk of Fame has historically honored Hollywood legends such as Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, and Elizabeth Taylor, as well as contemporary stars like Daniel Radcliffe, Jennifer Aniston, and Miley Cyrus.

Beckham's Career and Philanthropy

Beckham's playing career spanned 20 years, making him the first English player to win league titles in four countries: England, Spain, the United States, and France. In 2018, he became co-owner of MLS club Inter Miami, which won its first MLS Cup last year. He has also supported numerous charitable causes, serving as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 2005. Last year, Beckham received a knighthood for his services to sport and charity.

Upon receiving the knighthood, Beckham said: "Growing up in east London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour. To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career and literally a boyhood dream come true."
