Sir David Beckham has come to the defence of his wife Victoria after her seemingly unbothered reaction to England's World Cup quarter-final victory over Norway went viral on social media. The former Spice Girl was captured on camera appearing calm and composed while her husband and children celebrated wildly around her during the match at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Family Celebration in Miami
The Beckham family—David, Victoria, and their children Romeo, Cruz, and Harper—were in the stands on Saturday as England secured a 2-1 win over Norway, thanks to a brace from Jude Bellingham. The victory sets up a semi-final clash with Argentina. David, who visited the England squad earlier in the week, shared photos and videos on Instagram Stories, writing: "Brilliant from the lads." He later posted a family picture with the caption: "What a moment in Miami, I'm so proud of the team tonight reaching the semi-final of the World Cup and to celebrate with my family was so special... Thank you @england for giving our country these moments."
Victoria also shared a photo of herself and David with their children, captioning it: "Special moment tonight in Miami with my family and for our country." However, her composed demeanour during key moments of the game sparked a flurry of jokes and comments on social media, with many noting her lack of visible excitement compared to her husband.
David's Humorous Response
American stand-up comedian Jenny Johnson posted a tongue-in-cheek tribute to Victoria, writing: "I wanted to take a moment to single out @england's number one fan, Victoria, Lady Beckham!!!! There's nothing like cheering your heart out for England from home, then they cut to Victoria and we see that classic Posh Spice smile! It's so infectious! I used to think I got animated while watching sports, but Victoria blows my enthusiasm out of the water! Each time I see her I shout, 'SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!!!!' because her energy is electric!!!"
David saw the humorous side and responded, defending his wife: "She was celebrating inside I promise. Her reactions were slightly slower than mine @jennyjohnsonhi5." The exchange has been widely shared, highlighting the couple's good-natured handling of the online chatter.
Legacy Cap and Squad Visit
Earlier in the week, David received a legacy cap from England captain Harry Kane to commemorate his 115 caps for the national team. The presentation took place after Beckham welcomed the squad to Inter Miami's training complex in Fort Lauderdale, where they held their final training session before the Norway match. The England team had flown from Kansas City to Florida following their 3-2 Round of 16 win over Mexico. Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, was on hand to greet manager Thomas Tuchel, Kane, and the rest of the squad, offering the use of the club's state-of-the-art facilities.
England's semi-final against Argentina is scheduled for later this week, as the Three Lions aim for a spot in the World Cup final.
