New claims from a biography about the Beckham family allege Victoria Beckham intervened to prevent son Cruz from distancing himself from the family name, and that Brooklyn Beckham feels 'so sad' about his estrangement from his parents.
Victoria 'scuppered' Cruz's plans
The book, Brand Beckham: The Fame. The Feuds. The Fallout by Alison Boshoff, claims Cruz Beckham's decision to front indie band The Breakers followed the sacking of his entire management team. Management firm TaP had attempted to separate Cruz from the Beckham brand by dropping his surname and playing 'ordinary London pubs… to make his rise look more organic.'
Victoria's decision to share footage of Cruz performing at director Guy Ritchie's pub went against their plans, and TaP 'parted company' with Cruz 'on friendly terms.' A source said: 'The whole point was to distance him from being Posh Spice's baby boy – she scuppered it.'
Brooklyn's fashion line blocked
The book also claims Victoria denied Brooklyn use of his surname for a planned £3million clothing range with BoohooMan, due to its association with 'fast fashion,' despite her own past range with Target. An insider said: 'It did get into a bit of the war with the brand. And the deal then did not happen.'
Brooklyn, 27, effectively ended his relationship with his family after a six-page statement earlier this year. Friends claim he feels the 'pain of separation keenly' and is 'so sad about it still.' His wife Nicola Peltz, 31, is said to be open to a reunion and will 'never stop' him travelling to the UK.
Parallels between Victoria and Nicola
According to the book, Brooklyn 'married his mother' after his 2022 wedding to Nicola, with a source saying 'Nicola and Victoria are very similar people.' Friends also claimed Brooklyn was often naïve while dating and easily 'besotted,' with one comment: 'If they like poodles, he likes poodles.'
Victoria's 'low status' in Spice Girls
The book alleges Victoria had a 'low status in the band' and was frequently teased by Mel B. After Geri Halliwell's departure, the group reunited in 2007, during which Geri 'annoyed everyone.' Victoria later claimed a publicist told her to say her black tube dresses were from Gucci, 'even though they were from Miss Selfridge.'
