BBC Presenter Pete Levy's Awkward Slip-Up Live on Look North
BBC Presenter Pete Levy's Live Slip-Up on Look North

BBC news presenter Pete Levy suffered an awkward gaffe live on air during a recent BBC Look North bulletin. He mistakenly referred to a beloved East Yorkshire spot as featuring on BBC Two's Crimewatch programme, when he meant Springwatch.

During the broadcast, Levy began talking about one of East Yorkshire's top beauty spots due to feature on Springwatch. However, he declared: "One of East Yorkshire's top beauty spots featured on BBC Two's Crimewatch programme." He quickly caught his mistake and corrected himself, saying: "Springwatch programme, I beg your pardon!"

Levy clearly struggled to maintain his composure as he continued, adding: "Not Crimewatch, Springwatch. Oh, that's a classic, isn't it?" The footage was shared on social media, and viewers quickly piled into the comments with their reactions.

One fan commented: "@peter_levy utter legend! xx." Another added: "Oh dear @peter_levy" with two crying-with-laughter emojis.

This wasn't the first time Levy, who has presented Look North on weekdays since 2002, has experienced an on-air blunder. In 2023, he was in fits of laughter while delivering the day's headlines for Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire. The specific story involved the rising costs to repair a Lincoln walkway, known as the 'Glory Hole'. Levy found himself utterly unable to keep his composure while presenting the piece on the oddly named pathway.

He said: "Now, it's estimated that the bill to repair Lincoln's Glory Hole, will be.." He momentarily faltered as his usually composed professional facade slipped when he realised the cheeky double meaning. A smirk crept across his features as he attempted to carry on, saying: "will be anything from sixty.." Again, Levy began giggling as he disclosed the projected replacement costs. As he kept chortling, the BBC cut to shots of the 'Glory Hole' while Levy updated viewers on how long it would remain shut to the public, all while continuing to snigger.

BBC Look North airs three main weekday bulletins: a lunchtime update at 1:35 PM, the main evening programme at 6:30 PM, and a late-night bulletin around 10:30 PM.
