BBC News presenter Peter Levy, 70, made a hilarious slip-up during a live broadcast of the regional programme Look North on Wednesday evening. While discussing an East Yorkshire beauty spot that would feature on the wildlife show Springwatch, he mistakenly named the long-running crime programme Crimewatch instead.
Levy said: "One of East Yorkshire’s top beauty spots features on BBC Two’s Crimewatch programme," before quickly realizing his error and adding: "Springwatch programme, I beg your pardon!"
The veteran broadcaster chuckled to himself and remarked: "Not Crimewatch, Springwatch. Oh that’s a classic isn’t it?!" The moment delighted viewers, who took to social media to share their amusement. One fan wrote: "@peter_levy utter legend!!!! xx," while another commented: "Oh dear @peter_levy!"
A Career of Five Decades
Levy, who celebrated 50 years in broadcasting last year, told The Mirror he has no plans to retire. "It is unusual to be doing 50 years and not even having a break where you've been out of work," he said. "It's a mixture of luck and hard work. [I'm] very lucky as a person, I've worked hard and tried to keep in there."
He added: "It's a business which is not known for longevity... to stay the course for the whole career is unusual. I literally fell in love with broadcasting when I was a teen, and I've never fallen out of love with it."
Although he never initially intended to be on camera, Levy was asked to present a news bulletin due to staff shortages and instantly felt at home. "I felt instantly at home and instantly had that rapport," he recalled.
