Ashley Graham's new swimwear collection for Swimsuits for All is being promoted with untouched, unedited photos, a departure from the industry norm of retouched images. The plus-size model said the photos were a reminder that 'being authentic is beautiful.'
Graham, the first size 14 model to feature on the cover of Sports Illustrated, backs the #BeautyBeyondSize campaign. Her collection for Swimsuits for All includes sizes up to 34 and is inspired by the 1920s.
The 'Power of Paparazzi' campaign reflects a desire for transparency around photo editing and broader definitions of beauty. In an Instagram post, the retailer said: 'Looking at the #unretouched photos from our #Summer2018 shoot with @theashleygraham, we thought "why not use these as the campaign images?"'
Fans praised the move, with one commenting: 'Thank you for using unedited images! It's so nice to see real bodies in ads!' Another added: 'Oh my goodness this makes me feel okay about my cellulite.'
Graham previously faced trolling over workout videos in October 2017. The campaign follows a rise in users posting unfiltered photos on Instagram, and campaigns like Jameela Jamil's 'I Weigh' which encourages women to focus on achievements rather than body image.
