Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter sparked fan speculation after a strange backstage encounter at the MTV Video Music Awards. In a photo shared from the event, Sabrina was seen with her hands wrapped around Ariana's neck, appearing to playfully strangle her as they posed for a glam snap.
The moment came shortly after some fans accused Ariana of snubbing Sabrina during the ceremony. A viral clip showed the two pop stars hugging, but when Sabrina went in for another embrace, Ariana did not put her arms around her, leading to what many described as an awkward interaction.
Ariana, 32, won two awards at the VMAs, including Video of the Year for 'Brighter Days Ahead', while Sabrina, 26, took home three prizes. During her acceptance speech, Ariana thanked her fans, her team, and her therapist, adding, 'And gay people, I love you.'
The bizarre pose and perceived tension have fueled online debate, with some fans accusing Ariana of being 'fake' and others speculating about a rift between the two singers.
