Ant McPartlin and his former wife Lisa Armstrong have divided the ashes of their beloved Labrador, Hurley, equally following his death last month. The 12-year-old dog was put down after an illness, with Ant holding him in his arms as he took his last breaths.
The pair, who were married for 11 years before divorcing in 2018, continued to co-parent Hurley after their split, despite a bitter £30 million divorce battle. Following the dog's death, both left the country separately to grieve — Ant in Portugal and Lisa in Los Angeles — while arrangements were made for Hurley to be cremated.
A source told the Daily Mail: 'Ant and Lisa agreed to share Hurley's ashes 50/50. It's a decision they felt was fair, and it means they'll both be able to hold their own farewells. Ant has already collected his ashes, while Lisa intends to do likewise when she returns from her trip.' The ashes will be buried at their respective homes so each can pay their respects.
On a podcast with his co-host Declan Donnelly, Ant spoke emotionally about the loss: 'He passed away in my arms. We were at the vet, and we were all there to see him... it was a very lovely moment when we all got to say goodbye to him.' He added that Hurley had helped him through his addiction issues and that he still cries during walks with his other dogs.
The couple, who met as teenagers, were granted a divorce in 2018 after a well-publicised split. They have largely avoided each other since, even during handovers of Hurley. The dog's ashes represent the final tie between them, now severed amicably.
