Anne Hathaway has expressed her desire for her children to emulate Tom Holland, whom she calls her "dream son" after playing his mother in Christopher Nolan's epic film The Odyssey. The 43-year-old actress, currently pregnant with her third child, made the remarks during a joint interview promoting the movie.
Hathaway's Motherly Admiration for Holland
Speaking to E-talk, Hathaway was asked how she brought "mother energy" to the set. She replied, "Well, first of all, I have to say as a mum in real life, I very much hope all my children grow up to be as wonderful as my onscreen child." Holland, 30, nearly spit out his drink and laughed at the compliment. Hathaway added that he was "like a dream son" and instrumental to her performance. "I just really like Tom," she continued.
Hathaway and her husband Adam Shulman already have two sons: Jonathan, ten, and Jack, seven. In the film, she plays Penelope, the mother of Holland's Telemachus. The cast also includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Zendaya as Athena, and Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, and others.
Praising Nolan and the Cast
Hathaway praised director Christopher Nolan, noting that the cast shared an "intimate appreciation of each other" and were motivated to deliver performances worthy of a Nolan film. "We all wanted to be an actor that was worthy of being in a Chris Nolan movie," she said.
Pregnancy Announcement
Hathaway announced her third pregnancy in an Instagram video set to Barbara Lewis's 'Baby I'm Yours'. She walked into frame with her arms folded, then opened them to reveal her baby bump. The caption read: "x Baby, I'm yours x". Celebrities including Samantha Barks, Kelly Rowland, and Gigi Hadid congratulated her.
Keeping Family Private
Hathaway has largely kept her family life out of the spotlight. In 2023, she told Porter magazine, "It’s something I feel is not just essential for my health – I’m on a team, it’s my family, and it’s not just about me. My family has needs, and one of the needs of children is that they need to be able to define their own lives."
Hathaway won an Oscar for her role in Les Misérables and continues to balance her career with motherhood.
