Social media star Angry Ginge is set to play at Old Trafford as Soccer Aid returns to the home of his beloved Manchester United. The 23-year-old, a die-hard United fan, will share the pitch with club legends including Wayne Rooney, Gary Neville, Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes and Nemanja Vidic. The charity match raises money for UNICEF and also features celebrities such as Sir Mo Farah, Bear Grylls, Paddy McGuinness and Louis Tomlinson.
Born in Salford in November 2001, Angry Ginge is a screen name – his real name is Morgan Burtwhistle. That name caused Manchester City legend Micah Richards to burst into laughter during an episode of the Baller League UK podcast. When Angry Ginge revealed his first name, Richards reacted with surprise, and upon hearing the surname 'Burtwhistle', he was sent into another fit of giggles.
Angry Ginge rose to prominence in 2020, initially creating FIFA and EAFC gaming videos before expanding into other games and real-life content. He has collaborated with the Sidemen, Chris MD and Danny Aarons, and now has 814,000 YouTube subscribers and 1.3 million Twitch followers. He made his debut in the annual Sidemen charity match in September 2023 and scored for the YouTube Allstars in this year's event.
This year, Angry Ginge took charge of the Yanited side in the Baller League, leading them to a third-place finish in the regular season and reaching the grand final. It has been estimated that he has earned between £804,000 and £1.1 million from YouTube, TikTok and Instagram alone in the past year, not including income from Twitch or the Baller League.
However, his time in the Baller League has not been without controversy. During a match against SDS FC, a mass brawl broke out after one of his players appeared to push an opponent towards the advertising boards. Angry Ginge attempted to join the confrontation but was held back by stewards as order was restored.
