Amy Hart's Hospital Dash: Birth on Busy A-Road

Former Love Island star Amy Hart has shared the dramatic story of her second son Dexter's birth, revealing she feared she would give birth on the side of a busy A-road. The 33-year-old reality star and her husband Sam Rason welcomed Dexter on March 5, three weeks early, weighing 8lb 6oz.

A Race Against Time

Amy explained that her contractions started slowly, similar to her first pregnancy with son Stanley, but quickly intensified. When she called the hospital, she was told her booked hospital was full and she had to travel to another facility 40 minutes away. "I was like, 'I'm going to give birth on the side of an A-road, this is horrendous!'" she recalled.

Epidural Ordeal

Upon arrival, Amy faced another challenge: doctors struggled to administer an epidural. It took 11 attempts as three anaesthetists tried, with the needle hitting bone each time due to her slightly curved spine. "Every time I had a contraction my body would move," she said. "I had to lean over, breathe through the contractions while biting a pillow." Eventually, the 11th attempt succeeded, leaving Amy with 11 needle marks on her back.

Joyful Arrival

Once comfortable, Amy pushed for just 10 minutes before Dexter was born. "I was thrilled when I first held him," she said. "He latched immediately and he slept well. We're all besotted." Sam admitted feeling helpless watching Amy in pain, but was overjoyed to meet his second son.

Family Life and Future Plans

Amy, who froze her eggs in 2021 due to early menopause risk, had two miscarriages before conceiving Dexter. She struggled to embrace the pregnancy initially, but now enjoys motherhood with Stanley, three, and newborn Dexter. The couple is already considering a third child, possibly a girl, though they are happy with their boys.

The family is preparing to move from their first home to a larger 'forever home'. Despite busy schedules, they aim for monthly date nights. Amy has stepped back from hosting Love Island's official podcast to focus on family, but still loves the show that launched her fame.
