Amanda Owen Struggles to Hold Back Tears After Family Dog's Death
Amanda Owen was in tears during the latest episode of Channel 4's Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive & Kids as the family faced the heartbreaking loss of their cherished dog, Chalky. The shepherdess admitted her children were 'absolutely bereft' upon discovering the pet had passed away.
Chalky's Final Moments
Before the Owen family gathered to lay Chalky to rest, Amanda recalled: 'It was really clear and obvious that Chalky was fading away.' She described the moment her children ran out of the house saying Chalky had died, adding: 'They were absolutely bereft, and they knew it was coming, and I knew it was coming. But still, just to see her laid there, as peaceful as anything and still warm, it pulled at your heartstrings. No, she's had a good life.' The episode, which aired on Sunday, July 12, was a repeat from series 3.
Remembering Chalky
Amanda and one of her daughters spoke warmly of Chalky, noting she didn't like normal dog food but had a particular fondness for cheese. Amanda remarked that you couldn't simply get over losing a dog like Chalky. 'We had her for 13 years, that's a long time, that's good innings,' she added, according to the Express.
Family Tribute and Burial
After Amanda and Clive's daughters lovingly crafted a coffin for Chalky, the whole family united to celebrate her life. The girls even composed and read aloud a heartfelt poem in her honour. As Amanda struggled to hold back her tears, Clive said: 'Oh, it's good old Chalky. She's gone, but not forgotten. She's lived a great life, and she's been a great friend to us all. There she'll be, and we'll remember her there, won't we?' He added: 'She couldn't have got a finer burial, could she?'
Outpouring of Support on Instagram
Amanda had taken to Instagram to share the devastating news of Chalky's passing, receiving an outpouring of sympathy from her supporters. The caption simply stated: 'Mourning #Chalky.' One fan wrote: 'So sad when you lose a dog. Sending you love.' Another follower added: 'Sorry for your loss, Amanda, Clive, and family.'
