Almost Famous Star Patrick Fugit Opens Up About Leaving Hollywood

Patrick Fugit, best known for his breakout role in the 2000 cult classic 'Almost Famous', has spoken about his decision to leave Hollywood and relocate to Texas with his family. The 42-year-old actor, who played aspiring rock journalist William Miller in the film, moved away from Los Angeles in 2022 with his wife Jenny Del Rosario and their son Ryker, born in 2019.

In a recent interview with People magazine, Fugit reflected on his time working on 'Almost Famous', which earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. He recalled screen-testing with co-star Kate Hudson, who received an Oscar nomination for her role as groupie Penny Lane. 'I was 16. I was like, 'Yes, I will be excited to do scenes with her,'' he said, describing the seven-month shoot as 'very pivotal' in his teenage life.

After his breakout role, Fugit appeared in films such as 'Saved!', 'We Bought a Zoo', 'Gone Girl' and 'Queen of Earth', as well as TV series including 'Outcast' and 'Treadstone'. His most recent on-screen appearance was in the 2023 miniseries 'Love & Death' alongside Elizabeth Olsen, where he sported a more mature look with grey hair.

Fugit explained that the decision to leave LA was driven by a desire for a slower pace of life. '2020 was a very dynamic period of time in LA, and it was not, in fact, dynamism that we really liked,' he said. The family now enjoys a rural lifestyle with chickens, goats, and a large garden. Fugit noted that he can still audition for projects online, allowing him to maintain his acting career while living outside the Hollywood bubble.
