Aljaž Škorjanec, the Slovenian professional dancer known for his dazzling performances on Strictly Come Dancing, has spoken out about the recent controversy surrounding the show's cast changes. In an interview at LEON's Regent Street restaurant, the 36-year-old addressed the so-called 'bloodbath' of axings, saying he supports the decisions made by Strictly bosses. 'Whatever the Strictly bosses do, it’s in the interest of the show, and we always support their decisions,' he said, adding that he hopes to return for another season.
Reflecting on the departure of long-time colleagues, Škorjanec noted that change is part of the show's evolution. 'It’s always sad to see someone go, but it’s equally exciting to see new faces, fresh energy, and people who bring something different,' he said. The dancer, who took a two-year break in 2022 to focus on fatherhood, returned to the show in 2024 and is the only professional ever to be brought back.
Škorjanec also discussed his family life, praising his wife, Janette Manrara, as his 'favourite presenter in the UK.' He spoke about their summer tour, 'Let’s Face the Music and Dance,' and his daughter Lyra, now 2. 'I left because I knew I wanted to be a hands-on dad and a good husband to a pregnant wife,' he explained. 'I was lucky enough to put everything on hold and focus solely on family.'
When asked about the future of Strictly's hosting, Škorjanec said the new presenters must 'bring sparkle, glamour, and enjoy the ride.' He also hinted at a possible career after dancing, expressing a desire to work with LEON founder John Vincent. 'I genuinely want to spend time with people I love and care about,' he said.
