The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Clara Amfo were visibly moved during Thursday's episode after surprising nine-year-old Oliver with a special thank you.
Surprise from Spider-Man stars
The presenters revealed they had recruited Zendaya, Tom Holland and Jacob Batalon, stars of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, to surprise Oliver, who has raised more than £16,500 for The Brain Tumour Charity. The youngster, from Barnsley, set himself the challenge of running nine marathons in four months—one for every year of his life—after his father Tom was diagnosed with a brain tumour at age 39.
The cast surprised Oliver in London and invited him to the film's premiere, leaving the boy in tears.
Hosts emotional in studio
Back in the studio, Alex Jones, 49, fought back tears as she thanked the actors: "Thank you so much to Tom and Zendaya and Jacob. And true to their word, last night Oliver went along to the premiere with his family to see the film..." She then sighed emotionally and composed herself. Co-host Clara Amfo, 42, added: "Oh, such a beautiful gang... we'll try not to cry," with Alex admitting: "Well, emotional!"
Clara later encouraged viewers to nominate heroes for future thank-yous. Viewers on X reacted, with one calling it "so good" and another saying: "Best one big thank you ever!! So emotional and the stars were so lovely to Oliver."
