The couple left a Grade II-listed property in Holybourne after more than 20 years, downsizing to be closer to their daughters. According to the Daily Mail, Alan, 77, bought the five-bedroom home from Omaze winner Rachael Reid.
The property sits on 1.4 acres of gardens and includes a detached pool house, a 32-foot swimming pool, a gym, a sauna and an outdoor kitchen.
'A fearsome wrench'
Reflecting on the move in Country Life in September, Alan said: "Leaving the garden I have created and tended for 23 years will be a fearsome wrench, but the time is right, and the pines are beckoning."
He added: "We are only ever custodians of our patches of earth, and I am happy to hand over my four acres for others to enjoy and to cultivate. I like to think that I have one more garden in me."
Alan continued: "Excitement has taken over from the prospect of leaving my favourite patch of earth behind. I have plans to plant more pines — Scots and umbrella — to do my bit to keep Surrey wooded and to remind me of happy times on the moors, at Kew, and basking in the Mediterranean sunshine."
Greenhouse plans approved
Since arriving in Surrey, the Gardeners' World star has begun transforming the new garden. This month, planning permission was confirmed for a 4.48m x 3.14m greenhouse and an extension to an existing outbuilding.
Alan has been keeping fans updated on his progress, revealing some of the plants he has bought and confirming that the pink rhododendron he planted in the spring has finally bloomed. He also confirmed that the weather vane he designed 40 years ago has been removed from his former home in Hampshire and installed at his new Surrey abode.
