Adil Ray, the 52-year-old broadcaster, surprised Good Morning Britain viewers and his co-stars by revealing he is considering going on holiday with a former partner. The admission came during a discussion about whether people should take trips with their exes, where he explained that he and his former girlfriend have remained close friends and are both currently single.
Why did Adil's admission surprise everyone?
The conversation began when the Lingo host admitted he and his ex had been discussing the idea of taking a holiday together. "I am good friends with my ex," Adil explained on Thursday's (August 6) GMB. "She needs a holiday, and I need a holiday, and we are both thinking about it."
Kate appeared genuinely surprised, telling him: "You never talk about your romantic life." Adil then confirmed he is currently single before explaining that he and his former partner have stayed on good terms over the years. He even joked that they could save money by sharing a room, insisting they would remain "purely platonic" – prompting guest Kerry Katona to laugh that he was "pushing it." Despite the insight, Adil did not reveal which former partner he was referring to.
Adil Ray keeps his relationships firmly out of the spotlight
Unlike many television personalities, Adil has always chosen to keep his romantic life largely private. Despite being one of Britain's most recognisable broadcasters through his work on Good Morning Britain, Citizen Khan and Lingo, he has rarely spoken publicly about past relationships or his dating life.
In fact, Kate's reaction during the live programme reflected what many viewers already knew which is it is unusual for Adil to discuss his personal relationships at all. As a result, there is very little public information about his previous partners, and he has never confirmed the identities of those he has dated.
He's previously said he's looking for 'The One'
Although Adil seldom discusses romance, he has occasionally shared his hopes of finding the right person. Speaking to OK! magazine in 2021, he admitted dating during the COVID-19 pandemic had been difficult and revealed he was still searching for "the one." He said he simply wanted to meet the right woman before settling down.
Adil has also joked on social media about his father asking when he plans to get married, showing that questions about his love life aren't just asked by television colleagues.
