A Place in the Sun host Sara Damergi expressed her disappointment after her buyers rejected all the properties she put forward to them. In a repeat episode airing on Wednesday, August 19, the Channel 4 presenter joined couple Bernie and Vernon in Fuerteventura, in search for their dream holiday home.
Budget Constraints and Property Rejections
With a budget of £150,000, things did not go as planned, as the couple ruled out all the properties they saw for various reasons, ultimately choosing not to put an offer forward. Bernie and Vernon admitted the first home they saw was too claustrophobic, while at another point, Sara said she was taking a “gamble” on a rural property. Though her clients liked the views surrounding them, they remained stuck in a “dilemma”.
Unfortunately, they ultimately decided not to put any offers in, concluding that their final viewing did not go “very well”.
Couple’s Decision and Reflection
“We’re not going to be putting in an offer today,” Bernie said. She went on to explain: “That property, the remote one, with the beautiful views, the mountain, the sea, was beautiful. And the inside was so spacious, it was lovely. But when we went home and talked about it last night, what we hadn’t thought about at the time, and on reflection, it’s quite remote. So if I was out here on my own and wanted to go out for dinner, I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking home on my own from there.”
Vernon added that they needed to re-assess their plans, as their budget would not stretch to a property that could be as spacious but less rural.
Host’s Reaction and Next Steps
“What’s the plan moving forward?” Sara asked, to which Bernie admitted: “I don’t think we can afford what we want in Fuerteventura. I don’t think we can get the space, the location, the views. One thing we did get in all of the properties was a swimming pool, thank you, but we can’t get the rest of it in the budget we’ve got.”
Sara replied: “It’s been a bit of a learning curve, so it really is back to the drawing board, doing some number crunching and starting again.” She added: “You’ve got a lot of talking over when you get back home.”
After Bernie and Vernon thanked Sara for her help, she concluded to the camera: “It’s been quite the journey for Vernon and Bernie, and although I’m disappointed I didn’t manage to find them their dream holiday home, I wish them all the best on their future search.”
A Place in the Sun is available to watch on Channel 4.
