A fresh public plea has emerged urging Meghan Markle to introduce her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to their maternal grandfather, Thomas Markle, for the first time. The call follows the recent reunion of the Sussex children with their paternal grandfather, King Charles, at Highgrove earlier this month.
Strained Relationship Since 2018
The Duchess of Sussex has been estranged from her father since 2018, a rift that began in the run-up to her wedding to Prince Harry. Thomas Markle was involved in a scandal after arranging paparazzi photos of himself, which were published globally. Subsequently, a private letter from Meghan to her father was made public, further deepening the divide. Since then, the two have not seen each other, though Meghan reportedly reached out last year after Thomas underwent a leg amputation.
Public Poll Results
After news broke that Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, had reunited with King Charles for the first time in four years, the Daily Express conducted a poll asking whether Meghan should take her children to meet Thomas Markle. The poll, which ran from 1:45 p.m. on July 19 to 11:30 p.m. on July 20, received 762 responses. A total of 724 people voted “yes,” 27 voted “no,” and 11 said they “didn’t know.”
Thomas Markle's Desire for Reconciliation
Thomas Markle has consistently expressed a wish to reconcile with his daughter and meet his grandchildren. He previously described the situation as “cruel,” lamenting that he had never been given the opportunity to see them. Meghan has not commented publicly on the relationship in some time, and the estrangement is believed to continue.
