World Matchplay Darts 2026 Preview: Littler Leads the Field

The Winter Gardens in Blackpool are set to host the 2026 World Matchplay Darts tournament, with defending champion Luke Littler entering as the overwhelming favourite to retain the Phil Taylor Trophy. Littler has dominated the sport throughout 2026, building on his victory in last year's final where he defeated James Wade.

Key Contenders and Rivalries

Littler's primary rival, Luke Humphries, who won the title in 2024, is expected to provide stiff competition. Other notable contenders include three-time winner Michael van Gerwen, Premier League standout Jonny Clayton, and rising star Gian van Veen. The tournament runs from July 18 to July 26 at the historic Winter Gardens venue.

Special Preview Edition: Tower & the Glory

A special preview magazine, titled Tower & the Glory, is now available. It includes interviews with leading players, a chat with darts legend Phil Taylor, an analysis of main contenders, and a retrospective of the best Matchplay moments. The edition also previews the Women's World Matchplay, where Beau Greaves aims to reclaim the crown she lost to Lisa Ashton last year.
