The iconic Reims-Cessna FR172F Amphibian G-DRAM, known as “Wee DRAM,” will return to the skies at The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Flown by Prestwick pilot Hamish Mitchell, the aircraft has become a firm favourite with aviation enthusiasts and families. Wee DRAM is a Reims-Cessna FR172F Reims Rocket, a high-performance French-built variant of the Cessna 172, featuring a tartan tail design and an amphibious float system that allows it to operate from both land and water.
Display highlights and local pride
Visitors to Ayr shorefront can expect an exciting flying display showcasing the aircraft’s versatility and agility. Weather and sea conditions permitting, Mitchell is also expected to perform the “Splash and Go,” briefly touching down on the water before taking off again.

One of the things that makes the event so special is the mix of world-class aerial displays alongside aircraft with strong local connections, and Wee DRAM is a fantastic example of that.”
Community support and RAF Benevolent Fund
Councillor Alec Clark, South Ayrshire Council’s Depute Leader and Policy Lead for Commercial/Operational Services, said: “Seeing a Prestwick-based aircraft performing over Ayr adds a real sense of local pride to the programme. We want to showcase all that South Ayrshire has to offer and our Festival Village provides an excellent opportunity for local traders, food and drink businesses, and community organisations to put themselves on the map.”

Festival returns with packed programme
The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight returns to Ayr shorefront on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September 2026, featuring aerial displays, family entertainment, interactive attractions, STEM activities and a vibrant Festival Village. The RAF Benevolent Fund is the official charity partner for the event, providing support to serving and former RAF personnel and their families.
