Alan Shearer has sent a touching message to both Sir Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan following their cancer diagnoses, praising them as 'superb men.'
Shearer's Heartfelt Tribute
Speaking to Betfair, Shearer reflected on his time playing under both legends. 'Both Sir Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan had incredible careers, and I was lucky enough to work with both of them,' he said. 'Kenny, first of all, from '92 to '96 at Blackburn; I became a great friend of his, and he was unbelievable. And obviously Kevin when I signed in '96 and when he was England manager.'
Shearer emphasized their qualities beyond football: 'If you try to forget about football for a moment, they are two great blokes who would do anything for you. All we can do is wish them as well as possible and hope for a speedy recovery, because they're superb men first and foremost.'
Cancer Diagnoses Announced
Kevin Keegan's family confirmed his diagnosis earlier this year, stating he was admitted to hospital for evaluation of abdominal symptoms. 'These investigations have revealed a diagnosis of cancer, for which Kevin will undergo treatment,' they said, requesting privacy.
Sir Kenny Dalglish also announced his diagnosis via social media after an inadvertent post. 'I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well,' he wrote, thanking medical staff for their care.
Shearer's Connection with Both Legends
Shearer made 162 appearances under Dalglish at Blackburn and Newcastle, scoring 110 goals. He also played under Keegan at Newcastle, making 25 appearances and scoring 17 goals, and later under Keegan for England, netting eight goals in 16 caps.
The football world has rallied around both men, with Shearer's message adding to the outpouring of support.
