Liverpool starlet Rio Ngumoha has reportedly made a strong impression in a behind-closed-doors friendly for England, sending a direct message to manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of the World Cup. The 17-year-old scored a breathtaking strike from distance as England defeated a Miami XI 6-0 in Florida.
Ngumoha Shines in Pre-World Cup Camp
Ngumoha is part of the Three Lions squad currently training in the United States ahead of the tournament. Although not named in the final 26-man squad by Tuchel, the Liverpool youngster has been given the chance to impress in warm-up matches. According to the Daily Mail, Ngumoha found the net with a stunning long-range effort, joining former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri on the scoresheet. Al-Hilal striker Ivan Toney scored a hat-trick in the emphatic victory.
Recent England Debut and Player of the Match Award
Ngumoha recently made his senior England debut in a 1-0 win over New Zealand, earning the player of the match award. Reflecting on the experience, he told England's official app: "It was a crazy feeling. I was happy, I was buzzing. I just wanted to play and show everyone what I could do. And yeah, I just had fun."
Future at Liverpool Amid Bayern Interest
Ngumoha's future at Liverpool has been the subject of speculation, with reports linking him to Bayern Munich. However, the Liverpool Echo understands that the Reds have not been contacted by the Bundesliga side and have no intention of letting the teenager leave this summer. New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is expected to integrate Ngumoha into the first-team squad for the upcoming campaign.
