Ricky Gervais has made a surprise appearance at a popular cafe in Manchester's Northern Quarter. The comedian was pictured on social media with the owner of TFR cafe, located inside the iconic Afflecks emporium.

Sarah Abell, who runs the independent cafe with her husband Tommy Heaton, shared the photo with Gervais on Instagram. She wrote in the caption: "Me and my mate [heart emoji]"
TFR is an independent cafe on the third floor of Afflecks, serving coffee, food and sweet treats.
Upcoming Manchester shows
Gervais visited the cafe just weeks before the Manchester leg of his stand-up tour. He is set to be back in the city in October, due to perform at the O2 Apollo Manchester on October 12 and 13.
Afflecks refurbishment
The visit comes after Afflecks announced the family-run business is currently having a mini refurb but is still open as usual. Afflecks posted about the cafe last week, urging shoppers to "show them some love" while the work takes place.
The post said TFR was serving a reduced menu of toasties and sweet treats alongside its usual drinks. Afflecks wrote in a caption on Instagram: "Our lovely cafe TFR (situated on the 3rd floor) is currently having a little mini refurb, BUT they’re still open as usual and ready to keep you fed while you shop."
