Peter Ruddick, the senior lead presenter and main rotating weekday business presenter on BBC Breakfast, has a life away from the studio that includes a recent 'overwhelming' loss and a wedding anniversary.
Based at MediaCityUK in Salford, Manchester, Ruddick also works as a regular business reporter across national radio on BBC Radio 5 Live. His background spans more than a decade in financial and multimedia journalism, including roles as a multimedia journalist for trade publications like BigHospitality and as a broadcast journalist for a Swiss financial firm.
He later worked as an assistant and associate producer at CNBC, which covers global financial markets, before joining BBC News as a broadcast journalist and rising to senior reporter.
Return to BBC Breakfast
Ruddick returned to screens during the latest episode of BBC Breakfast on Tuesday (August 25), appearing in the studio to talk to hosts Sally Nugent and Ben Thompson about smart trolleys, reports the Mirror.
Growing up in West Sussex, he attended Chichester High School for Boys before moving to the North West to study at the University of Liverpool, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Politics in 2008.
'Overwhelming' loss
The presenter faced a devastating loss last year when he announced the death of his mum, Barbara Anne Adams. He shared the sad news with a moving tribute on Instagram.
Reflecting on the positive impact his mum had on his life and others, Ruddick wrote: "Your career helping others. Your relentless (and frustrating) desire to see the good in everyone and everything. Your sweet tooth. Your beauty and style. Your taste in music. Your late (and hard-won) academic success. Your children (and grandchildren and great grandchildren) who made you so proud with what they achieved and who they become. Your love of animals. Your appetite for a breakfast marmalade. Your theatrical spirit. One of a kind."
The comments section was flooded with supportive messages, which didn't go unnoticed. Ruddick later wrote: "Thank you for all the beautiful messages and lovely words. I'm sorry I've not been able to reply to everyone. It has all been a bit overwhelming. But I'm so, so grateful."
Wedding anniversary
As he faced the heartbreaking loss, Ruddick was supported by his husband, Will. The couple got married at Manchester's Hope Mill Theatre in 2024, eight years after meeting at the city's Pride Parade.
Ruddick and Will returned to the location of their wedding one year later, with the star sharing photos of the special occasion on Instagram.
He wrote: "1-year anniversary! Walking back the steps we took on 17.08.2024, where @gemwrightphotography worked her magic. Revisiting the memories of the best day (and party) ever. Only this time we took a piece of the @hopemilltheatre back with us."
