The 2026 Oscar nominations have been announced, with the ceremony set for March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. This year marks the first time in 14 years that no British performer has been nominated for Best Actor or Best Actress, with the top acting categories dominated by US talent.
British representation comes in the supporting categories: Delroy Lindo is nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Wunmi Mosaku for Best Supporting Actress, both for their roles in the horror film Sinners. The last time the UK was shut out of both lead acting Oscars was in 2012.
Sinners has made history with 16 nominations, breaking the record previously held by All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land. Among the notable snubs, Paul Mescal missed out on Best Actor for his role in Hamnet, despite the film receiving eight nominations including Best Actress for Jessie Buckley.
Other snubs include Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another and Odessa A'zion for Marty Supreme. Wicked: For Good received zero nominations, despite its predecessor winning two Oscars and earning 10 nominations last year. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo both failed to secure nominations.
Wunmi Mosaku, who plays a Hoodoo priestess in Sinners, said on The Graham Norton Show that she was inspired to act by the film Annie. She trained at Rada, which she says changed her life. Laurie Borg, executive producer of Hamnet, expressed delight at the film's eight nominations but called Mescal's omission a 'shame'.
Songwriter Diane Warren received her 17th Oscar nomination for the song 'Dear Me'. Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, nominated for Sinners, said the team 'worked so hard' and did not expect the record-breaking number of nods.
