Olivia Attwood has confessed to being completely stunned after meeting a woman enduring 'all kinds of agony' during a leg-lengthening procedure on her ITV2 show The Price of Perfection. The presenter admitted her 'mind was blown' by the ordeal, and that she wouldn't last a day in the woman's shoes.
The third series of the part-reality, part-documentary show is currently broadcasting weekly on ITV2, with each episode also available to stream on ITVX. Across six episodes, Attwood explores the world of cosmetic surgery and the people who choose to go under the knife to enhance their bodies, with the latest series focusing on subjects including celebrities and medical tourism.
Exploring leg procedures and a surprising family confession
This week, the presenter investigated operations and treatments people undergo on their legs. This featured women having stretch marks removed by laser and varicose veins surgically eliminated. Attwood even chatted with her own mum, who confessed to receiving treatment herself previously.
However, one woman left Attwood clearly stunned by her ordeal. She met with more than one individual who was having 'leg extension' surgery to boost their height and become taller. As she witnessed one operation firsthand, Attwood observed that the dangers of such procedures include "extreme pain, infection, nerve damage, blood clots and permanent disability."
Nhan's 12-week recovery and £85,000 procedure
Attwood subsequently visited 42-year-old Nhan from Australia, who also had the procedure. Nhan was three weeks into a 12-week stay as part of a recovery and aftercare programme. When asked about her wellbeing, Nhan confessed that she experiences good days and bad days, "but always bad at night." She revealed: "There's all sorts of pain, knee pain, ankle pain, muscle pain, nerve pain. You're not screaming in bed but it's quite bad."
Nhan acknowledged that her discomfort was far greater than she had expected. Nevertheless, she insisted that she would still have proceeded with the procedure. Prior to the surgery, she stood at approximately 4ft 3in and was hoping to gain six inches in height. The entire process reportedly cost £85,000, with the lengthening procedure adding 2mm daily through a combination of magnets and an Allen key.
Attwood's verdict and the outcome so far
Following her visit, Attwood reflected and confessed her 'mind was blown'. She said: "I feel like I'll need to sleep on this for, like, two days to fully digest what I've seen. I wouldn't last a week in there. No, let's be right, Liv, I wouldn't last a day. All that pain."
She then gestured with her fingers to demonstrate the height Nhan was set to achieve before adding: "Who am I to say that's not worth it? I can't get myself in their shoes, because it's not something I've ever had to think about. I've never been opposed to a few extra inches. I just don't care if they're on your legs."
A disclaimer at the conclusion of the episode disclosed that Nhan had achieved five and a half inches thus far. Olivia Attwood: The Price of Perfection airs Tuesdays at 9pm on ITV2 and streaming on ITVX.
