Mum who feared for kids' safety now a ripped bodybuilder

Tatiana Caso, a 28-year-old mother of two from Florida, US, has revealed how her fear of being unable to protect her children in an emergency drove her dramatic weight loss. At her heaviest, she weighed 16st 7lbs and wore a size XXL after years of struggling with her relationship with food and an unhealthy diet.

The stay-at-home mum said she struggled to keep up with her children and worried she wouldn't be able to step in and help if anything went wrong. A session on a trampoline with her daughter Ana, six, and son Mason, three, highlighted how unfit she had become.

A turning point on the trampoline

"I was so winded, I instantly was so disappointed in myself and I just couldn't understand how I let things get so bad," said Tatiana. "I had a lot of mom guilt because my daughter just wanted me to do things with her that I was too heavy to do and it was my own fault."

She added: "I was definitely eating out a lot [at the time] – I think that was one of the biggest issues because most restaurants and fast foods are so high calorie. My clothes were so ill-fitting and simply going to the playground and chasing my kids around was a feat."

"I felt like I was losing my identity. I wasn't giving myself the attention I needed so my kids were getting this irritable and depressed version of me."

From fad diets to a sustainable plan

Tatiana had been involved in powerlifting on and off since the age of 15, but after the birth of her children she was unsure whether she would ever return. She admitted to having tried countless fad diets over the years, yet none had ever offered a long-term solution.

"Since childhood I've had a bad relationship with food. Then after being pregnant twice, I used motherhood as an excuse to stay complacent and told myself I didn't have to be a priority," she said.

At her heaviest, she was consuming sugary cereal, McDonald's burgers and fries for lunch, carb-heavy mac and cheese for dinner, and snacking on crisps and ice cream.

Two years of steady progress

Determined to turn things around, Tatiana started tracking her calories to maintain a slight calorie deficit in November 2024. Rather than slashing her food intake dramatically, she focused on gradual, steady progress and watched the weight drop off consistently over the following two years.

She also got back into regular exercise, starting a consistent workout routine in November 2024, and quickly developed a passion for training. Today, she weight trains five days a week and fits in cardio whenever possible. With a bodybuilding show on the horizon, she currently trains eight to ten hours per week. Her diet has shifted to whole foods with a high-protein approach.

Tatiana now weighs 8st 1lb, having shed more than 50% of her body weight, and has dropped from a size XXL to an XS/S. "At first, people didn't say much but as more and more weight came off, people started asking how I did it," she said. "Friends and family were very supportive and now ask for advice all the time. My husband and I recently went to our high school reunion and people said I look like a completely different person."

Driven by the need to protect her children

For Tatiana, the transformation goes far deeper than the scales. One of her greatest driving forces was knowing she would be physically able to protect her children should anything go wrong.

"We live in a scary world and I want to be sure I could carry my children out of any potential danger. I would not have been able to do that effectively before. Now I know I could carry my kids and run without a second thought," she said.

"I no longer worry about my ability to keep my kids safe. We go to a lot of events and amusement parks and unfortunately active shooter threats are becoming more frequent nowadays. If that were to ever happen when I'm out with my kids, I'd want to be sure I can get them out by any means necessary."

The mum hopes her journey will motivate others who have battled with their weight or feel unable to make a change. She added: "I feel so much more confident and comfortable in my skin. I don't feel ashamed of my body anymore."

Tatiana also outlined her diet before and after her transformation. Before: breakfast was cereal, lunch was a McDonald's burger and fries, dinner was mac and cheese, and snacks were crisps and ice cream. After: breakfast is egg white oats, lunch is a lean beef burrito with Greek yoghurt, dinner is shredded chicken breast with potatoes and green beans, and snacks are rice cakes and protein bars.
