Five fish and chip shops from Merseyside have been honoured in the first-ever English Fish and Chip Awards, held in Manchester. The awards, organised by Paramount Creative, recognise the best fish and chip businesses across England, building on the success of the long-running Scottish awards.
Categories and Judging
The awards featured categories including Dine-In, Family-Run, Coastal, Sustainable, Best Fish & Chips and Best Fish & Chip Shop. Judges visited every finalist before selecting winners, while the Best Fish Fryer category was decided by a live cook-off. Awards director Warren Paul said he was delighted by the response to the first English edition and praised the passion shown by business owners.
Merseyside Winners and Highly Recommended
Chippy T in Southport was named Best Fish & Chips in the North West and also received a Highly Recommended accolade for Best Fish Fryer of the Year. Tracy Stock from the award-winning Chippy-T said the recognition was a testament to the team's dedication. Fylde Fish Bar Marshside in Southport was highly recommended for Best Dine-In Fish & Chips, Best Family-Run Business and Best Fish & Chips in the North West.
Pisces in Heswall received Highly Recommended awards for Best Fish & Chip Shop in the North West and Best Fish Fryer of the Year. The Good Catch in Formby was highly recommended in the Best Multi-Site Operator category. Harpers Fish and Chips completed the Merseyside honours with a Highly Recommended award for Best Fish & Chips in the North West.
Supporting Local Businesses
Warren Paul said the awards are designed to support local businesses during challenging times for the hospitality industry. He urged people to visit and support independent fish and chip shops to help keep traditional family businesses alive. Customers can be confident that award-winning businesses represent the very best in their category, he added.
