Matt Lucas has described his late husband Kevin McGee as the "funniest person" he has ever met, in an interview ahead of his appearance on Channel 4's Taskmaster.
The 52-year-old Little Britain star married Kevin in a civil ceremony in December 2006, but the partnership was dissolved in October 2008, less than two years later. Kevin died by suicide in October 2009, aged 32, at his home in Edinburgh after leaving a Facebook message that read "death is much better than life". Police attended and found no suspicious circumstances.
What makes Matt laugh
Asked by Radio Times what makes him laugh, Matt said: "My late husband Kevin was the funniest person I've ever met. Also, we had a chocolate Labrador called Milo who was hilarious. He was so stubborn."
The comedian previously paid tribute to Kevin in 2019, on the 10th anniversary of his death, writing: "I loved him more than anyone I've ever met, and still do. He was so funny and silly and clever and kind and handsome and his smile made my heart soar."
Wedding and split
Matt and Kevin married at Home House, a private members' club in London, and arrived at the reception in costume as Aladdin and Prince Charming. Guests included Matt's co-star David Walliams, Sir Elton John and Courtney Love.
In 2008, the couple announced their "amicable" split. A statement from their lawyers said: "It is with sadness that Matt and Kevin announce that their relationship has come to an end. They ask the press to respect their privacy at this time and to exercise restraint in any reporting of this matter."
At the time of Kevin's death, Matt pulled out of a West End role. He is now set to appear on Taskmaster in a much-anticipated episode.
