A guest at Love Island stars Tom Clare and Molly Smith's wedding in Majorca has revealed why the Guardia Civil were called to the event. Racing driver and Too Hot To Handle star Seb Melrose, 28, explained on TikTok that guests jumped into the port to celebrate the couple's marriage, which is banned in Spain.
What happened at the wedding venue
The couple recently travelled to Majorca for the second part of their wedding, having already held a legal ceremony in the UK. Friends and family gathered at the Suculenta Port de Sóller restaurant when the situation escalated, prompting the Guardia Civil to be called. A local yacht group reportedly became annoyed by members of the wedding party.
As the party got into full swing, attendees were seen jumping into the sea, which is prohibited. Tom's best man and close friend, Casey O'Gorman, was reportedly given a "telling off" by the Guardia Civil.
Seb Melrose's explanation
Speaking on TikTok, Seb said: "So, a bunch of news articles have come out to say that we were naughty boys. And I'm here to tell you that this is not true." He continued: "The police came because, yes, we all jumped in the port to celebrate Tom and Molly's marriage. That was fun. Anyway, none of us realised that in Spain, apparently, that's not allowed in the port specifically."
He added: "So anyway, the police arrived, gave us a warning to say, 'Please don't do it again because your lives are basically in danger if a boat comes.' It made complete sense. But we didn't do it again. The police stayed around, they loved us, had a laugh with us, and we were able to continue our celebrations."
Seb went on to say: "So the police didn't come because we were too drunk, because we weren't. It was kind of the start of the day anyway. So, we were all okay, and this was just a little slap on the wrist. But the Guardia Civil, they were lovely people, and thank you for being so respectful. So whatever you hear in the news, it's false. We were not being bad."
Earlier reports and wedding details
At the time, a source told The Sun: "Molly and Tom's guests were having a great time, people were downing beer, and Casey was keeping everyone in the party mood. At one point, Casey decided to jump into the port next to the restaurant, which is forbidden. The police arrived to give him a telling off and told him where he was allowed to swim."
This was not the first hiccup for the wedding festivities. Prior to heading to Majorca, Casey nearly missed the wedding, claiming that easyJet had overbooked the flight and he was initially denied entry.
The couple were married at the end of June in a courthouse ceremony in Manchester, attended only by those closest to them. They then hired out The Ivy in the same city for their post-ceremony celebrations. Over the weekend, they hosted a more lavish wedding on the Spanish island of Majorca, with reports revealing they hired out the 17th-century mansion Son Marroig.
The venue reportedly costs £10,000 per night to hire, and social media clips showed guests partying after the couple said "I do." Photographs from the event circulated on social media, with Molly wearing a strapless white gown and a long, flowing veil.
Both had previously appeared on the main Love Island show – Molly on season six in 2020 and Tom on season nine in 2023. They found lasting love when they returned to the villa for the All Stars version of the show.
