Jack P Shepherd Confirms Departure But Fans Needn't Worry

Coronation Street legend Jack P Shepherd has confirmed a temporary departure from the soap, but fans need not worry. The actor, who has played David Platt for 26 years since 2000, is taking a short break as his real-life wife, Hanni Treweek, prepares to give birth to their first child together. Jack is also waiting for his most recent hair transplant to heal.

A Beloved Character Takes a Breather

David Platt has been an integral part of Coronation Street, facing endless calamity and chaos. Most recently, he dealt with the manipulation of his sister-in-law Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown), who aimed to destroy his marriage to Shona Platt (Julia Goulding). He also supported his brother Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) as Nick's son Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) faced mental health issues. Jack's break will be short-lived, as he returns to the cobbles after paternity leave.

Baby Joy for Jack and Hanni

The couple announced their pregnancy in a sweet Instagram video in June 2026, six months after their wedding. The clip showed them in formal wear, cradling Hanni's baby bump and holding knitted cream booties. Hanni previously told OK! Magazine in 2020 that they knew early on they wanted children together.

Baby Name Debates

On his podcast On The Sofa with Colson Smith and Ben Price, Jack revealed they haven't chosen a name yet. He joked about naming the baby David, saying, 'David P Shepherd. Don't you think that would be f**king brilliant?' Co-hosts suggested Davina for a girl and adding 'P' as a middle name. Jack noted they avoid names based on disliked people and will likely google baby names like everyone else.
