The beloved BBC crime drama Hope Street, set in Northern Ireland, has received a major update that will delight its dedicated fanbase. The show, which first aired in 2021, quickly became a favorite among daytime television audiences. It follows the lives of officers at the local police department in the fictional town of Port Devine.
Return of the Series
After five successful series, Hope Street is set to make a triumphant return later this year with a special episode titled One of Our Own – A Hope Street Film. This feature-length special will also receive a cinematic release across the UK starting in September.
Cast and New Additions
Several familiar faces are confirmed to reprise their roles, including Kerri Quinn, Tara-Lynne O'Neill, Niamh McGrady, Marcus Onilude, Cameron Cuffe, Katie Shortt, Eleanor Methven, Paddy Jenkins, and Jonny Grogan. Joining them are exciting new cast members: Belfast-based comedian Paddy Raff as Malcolm McQueen, the new chef and barman at The Commodore; Tim McGarry as Reverend Dodds; and Letitia Hector as Anna Baptiste.
Plot Details
According to the BBC, the film "opens with a violent crime committed against a much-loved local and the police investigation brings bad news for Detective Sergeant Marlene Pettigrew. Love is also in the air and there's a wedding to plan, but this is Port Devine, what could possibly go wrong?"
Mary McKeagney, Commissioning Editor for BBC Northern Ireland, stated: "We hope this feature-length film will provide the perfect opportunity to tie up some loose ends for fans. And with some new characters thrown into the mix, I'm sure there will be plenty of drama in Port Devine! It is a bit of a thank you to all our audiences for engaging so enthusiastically with the series."
Critical Acclaim
Hope Street has garnered glowing reviews throughout its run, holding a rating of 6.7/10 on IMDb. The quaint community of this sleepy little Irish town is charming and engaging." A third added: "Found very bingeable. I am very glad I watched it."
